Is it really the last day of September? Either I'm not paying attention or there is some weird disruption to the space/time continuum that makes time speed up as the end of the year draws near. It's too early on a Sunday for any contemplation of physics, I'd so much rather go back to contemplating making quilts and admiring fabric.
My fabric fast has been well and truly busted as the admiring fabric portion of the program had me pushing more buttons and ordering more fabric. These showed up on Tuesday.
You'd think I'm channeling Halloween to be ordering these black and orange dots from Connecting Threads. Actually, no. These fabrics are intended for an OSU (Oklahoma State University) quilt I've got in the planning stages. So hopefully at least some of these three will leave the stash before the end of the year.
On the other had, I did get some sewing in this week. I started a new project and made significant progress on UFO # 11, so there is at least some measurable fabric going out.
Used last week: 2.07 yards
Added last week: 10 yards
Used for 2012: 32.65 yards
Added for 2012: 294.38 yards
Net stashed for 2012: 261.73 yards
My 2012 goal was to keep fabric purchases to less than 100 yards and use at least 75 yards of fabric. I'm not any where close on either goal. I suppose there is still the possibility of making the 75 yards out, but it's a long shot with only one quarter to go. One of the challenges this year is that I'm not finishing as many quilts, so I'm not using a lot of fabric for backings. I've been starting a lot of projects this year, but haven't really gotten any of them to completion. Maybe that's what I should work on till the end of the year? Or should I start more projects because that uses fabric too? Hmmm.
That's it for this week's stash report. I'm going to finish my coffee and hope over to Judy's Patchwork Times to see if anyone has a great strategy for last minute stash reductions.
I find a simple goal of net stash effect to be the most helpful for me. My goal is plus or minus a net 25 yards. So that gives me a 50 yard range and basically trying to keep my stash "even". I think it's good to set a goal, even if you don't make it--then you can start to analyze what you need to change. Without a goal, you don't have any indicators.
ReplyDeleteI know...how about making a parachute? And it you make it a quilted paeachute, you'll use TWICE as much fabric!
ReplyDeleteThere is always next year to finish your projects and then you will be able to count the fabric as out. I enjoy having more than one quilt in the works - 3 or 4 is more like it. Just enjoy the process.
ReplyDeletelove those dots .. btw, I need to increase my stash. it's too small .. but I don't really have room so I'll have to be happy with where it is now. I think you should give up on the fabric fast and just be content where you are .. having more or having less .. buying more or buying less. It's all good.
