For some reason this has been a long week with not a lot of time for sewing. Not that we had a lot going on, but we had a lot of errands to run after work each day. Getting home late really messes with the evening schedule around here. Hopefully this next week will be a bit calmer.
The time that was spent in the sewing room during the week was focused on justifying participation in the Grandmother's Choice BOW that Barbara Brackman is starting on September 1st. I really don't have time for a BOW, I'll get behind for sure at some point. There are still 3 UFOs on the list that need to get completed and 4 new quilts in various stages of completion. How could I justify starting a new project? If it will use up stash fabric is the biggest justification that came to mind. So I've been scouring the stash in the evenings looking for fabric that will work. I found most of what I needed except for a medium to dark green. So yesterday I went through the "new fabric to be washed piles", organized those by color and found a dark green that will work with the other stash fabric. It's another way to reduce the stash that works with my recently imposed fabric diet (like adding exercise to a weight loss program). Now I just need to implement the program, which unfortunately I've not been real successful at in either the fabric or weight management programs I've started in the past. There's always a first time right?
How does the stash report look this week? Actually not too bad.
Used last week: 4.57 yards
Added last week: 0 yards
Used for 2012: 27.95 yards
Added for 2012: 246.88 yards
Net stashed for 2012: 218.93 yards
Nothing in, so the stash diet is on track. I did finally finish making the back for the Fat Quarter Stars quilt and that was the bulk of what went out last week. I had hoped to use at least 75 yards of fabric this year. Some significant sewing needs to occur for that to happen.
I'm linking up with Judy over at Patchwork Times as usual. Good luck with your stash management goals this next week.
Yay for new projects - whatever the reason. I will not allow myself to start any new projects unless I finish something else first -- the exception being if it's for class! New project coming up soon because I plan to finish the bag this coming week!
ReplyDeleteOoh, that looks like a fun new project! What colors are you using? I have a pile of repo fabrics for a cat quilt... I should cut that and use the leftovers.
ReplyDeleteSometimes our real lives get in the way of our dream life of quilting 24 hours a day. Your BOM sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteI noted Judy said she was going to "coast" for the rest of this year and then REALLY get into hard core stash busting in 2013! I don't know if I've got it in me! I'm really looking forward to the new BOW. I figure if I set aside 90 minutes every Saturday morning, I should be able to stay on top of it. Ah, but the best laid plans ... !! :)
ReplyDeleteI think since you just finished a project you can probably squish another one in.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t bought anything in what feels like forever . Congratulations on not buying anything this week. I think I could be making the next year stash busting year myself. Having recently cleaned my sewing room I do have a ton of fabric sitting there waiting to be turned into amazing creations...
Famous last words!
I have been considering the Grandmother's Choice BOW for a little while. I went and checked it out and I think I will try to keep up. I am sewing for 2 new DGS's due in October so we'll see. Thanks for the link.
