Stash Report - November 6th

I live in Oklahoma, a state known for it's spring tornado season.  Which I've learned to deal with.  Last night we had a 5.6 earthquake which was really, really freaky.  My sewing room is on the second floor and it was really weird and just a tad scary to have all that swaying going on for what seemed like forever.  I haven't turned on the TV this morning, but from what the local news stations have posted on line, there are reports of significant damage near the central part of the state.   Not exactly the type of excitement I was looking for this weekend.

I was sewing last night when the quake hit (again it was a really, really strange sensation).  Still I did manage to finish up 6 blocks for the Geisha quilt last night.  I had also made the binding for the Flurry quilt and another 3 Geisha blocks earlier in the week.  So I have a bit going out this week.

Used this week: 1.31 yards
Added this week: 0 yards

Used year to date: 49.98
Added year to date:  60.25 yards

Net stashed for 2011:  10.27 yards.

Over 1 yard out is a good week for me.  Nothing in helps the stash numbers too.  Another milestone was passed this week.  I've used more fabric year to date than I used all last year.  With 7 more weeks in the year and at least one more quilt back that will get made, I should manage a bit more than 50 yards out this year.  To get back to the black, I need to hit over 60 yards out.  That's doable I think.

We are getting down to the wire in terms of years end.  To see how close others are to their stash management objectives, check out Patchwork Times

  1. I was in my quilt room - sewing on some CW blocks when everything started shaking. Did you realize that we've had 20 shakes since that first one on Saturday morning.

I'm close to breaking the 50 yards used - 49.96 yards to be exact. And, I think I'll be able to get a few backs in the mix before the end of the year.

Congrats on making that milestone of using more yardage than last year!

  2. I was awakened by the quake, all the way up here in Kansas. My DH and I had a brief panic attack, thinking someone had broken into our basement, as something crashed down there, and I couldn't sleep for hours. That was CRAZY!

    Good work with your busting.

  3. I was awake in bed, and I thought it was the wind at first! But then I realized the wind doesn't typically move the ground. It was awesome in a scary way!
Congrats on using more than last year!

  4. Glad to know you're okay, Kate! We had an earthquake this past summer. First one I've ever experienced, and even though we weren't near the epicenter, it was still very freaky. Yours sounds a lot worse than what we went through!

  6. Earthquakes are freaky events, for sure! Once when I was a kid I thought my brother had jumped on my bed to wake me up, and when I turned and looked, there was no one there. I'll never forget that--so weird!

Congrats on the "Keep Calm and Sew On" attitude, Kate!

  7. I have never experienced an earthquake, and to be honest, hope to never experience one either! I am glad all is okay by you though! When my daughter and her husband lived in IA a few years back, I remember getting a phone call from her that they experienced a little earthquake; that was news to me that we even felt them in this part of the country!
Sounds like you made good progress on your Geisha quilt!

  8. Well I'm glad you're all OK. Those quakes are sure scary. We had one a few weeks ago but it was all noise and bluster. That's what happens when you build our city on a fault line!We havent had a big one since the 1950's but Im sure it's coming.

  9. I think it's even scarier when you don't expect it -- I've lived in Northern California for the past 13 years. I've only felt a few earthquakes, the largest of which was a 4.8, but we expect them so when things start shaking, we know what it is. Still scary. Glad you're okay.

  10. Wow! You said tornadoes were common; I'm assuming earthquakes are not?

You are doing really well on your stash budget - I'm cheering for you and that last sixty yards.

  12. You are doing terrific managing your ins and outs. Hope you succeed with your goal. Earthquakes are really wierd at first. They are becoming for me like a somewhat normal happening...you see I live in San Diego. We seldom get much over a 3, but when we do it always sets your nerves on end. Glad you didn't suffer any damage. Sandi
