Stash Report

This is my first public stash report, but I've been keeping track all year.  One of my quilting goals for 2010 was to use more fabric than I bought.  You'll see if you look at my numbers, I've failed miserably!

Used this Week:  0 yards
Used Year to Date:  25.4 yards
Added this Week:  0 yards
Added Year to Date:  274.25 yards
Net Used for 2010:  -248.9 yards

I did attempt to make one quilt from my stash recently.  What I found was that while I have a lot of beautiful focus fabrics, I don't have many blenders.  That makes it hard to start a quilt using just what is in my stash.  So most of my recent purchases have been targeted to fill that gap.  Now I just need to start working on some new quilts!

  1. Welcome to stashreporting and blogging about it!

My view of "stashbusting" is really more of a stash enhancement process - weeding out the old stuff that you will not use and filling in the gaps where you do need colors, textures, etc. That way, a quilt can be made without having to always go to the store.

So, it looks like you have done a fantastic job of stash enhancement.

  2. I agree with Liz...this is not really about reducing your stash but about changing out your stash. Using the old and replacing with new modern fabric is my goal. Try making a few scrap quilts with your focus fabrics that way nothing really has to blend. Good luck and welcome to stash reporting and blogging.

  4. Well from he comments of Spinning Star Liz and Charlene S....I should look at my stash numbers differently too! I started in the last weeks of July. Welcome to the group. Judy gives us a great opportunity in hosting the Stash Report. You may also be interested in her Monday Design Wall. I've gotten involved there too.

  5. You've been a quick study if you can see where your stash doesn't work for you already. It shouldn't take you too long to start turning around your numbers!

  6. I started reviewing my stash a few months ago (frankly, when I did a podcast episode about it) and discovered I was extremely light in certain categories and overly heavy in others. I've been working on filling in those gaps. I've also been more focused on "shopping my stash" but have been replacing with new as well. As long as I stay within the confines of the allotted physical space, I figure I'm good to go. Some of those older fabrics I'm not as fond of anymore? Good for backings! Good luck with your own stash reduction strategy!
