One of Those Weeks

For some reason, last week just didn't go very well in the sewing room. Mainly because I didn't speed much time there.  What time spent with needle and thread was spent doing embroidery.  I did make some progress on that front.

Half the butterfly is finished, so now I can move the hoop to start on the second half.

There was no change in Unity.

Unity, 2020 Bonnie Hunter Sew-In-Place Quilt Along

Step 2 is still in progress. I'm hoping the rest of the steps don't take so long or else this is going to one long term project!

I did finish one more Frolic block, so there's slow progress on that project.  The big achievement for the weekend was getting the Mosaic Mystery top prepped for quilting.

Now I just need to find a box and package this up along with the batting then ship it to Trudy.

Since the second week of May wasn't so hot, there's not much progress to report on my efforts to earn a PHD in 2020.  My report looks exactly as it did at the end of April.

Hopefully by Mid June, Mosaic Mystery will be finished and the Storm at Sea quilt will bewell on it's way to being finished.

That's is for my week.  You can check out Monday Design Wall and Monday Making to see posts with lots more progress.

  1. I LOVE that butterfly--I have that piece and am cutting the butterflies into squares to later on use in a quilt...

  3. I love that butterfly embroidery - the color is really starting to come together. Getting your Mosaic Mystery ready to send is a big accomplishment - congratulations!

  5. Your butterfly is looking great. I saw a Unity quilt that was a little farther along than yours. It’s a pretty quilt. Sometimes Bonnie Hunter’s designs are a little too busy for my taste, but this one is really pretty. Love the fabrics and colors.

  6. Your Unity colors are so pretty! I have stopped after the second round, and am contemplating if I really want to make it any bigger because I really like how it looks right now. Plus my selections of fabrics in my colors were running low. But I've saved and printed all of the clues.

My own PHD list has 8 of the 12 items checked off as finished, but the other 4 are going to be a challenge to finish. One of them I haven't found yet which is odd.

  7. The complete Unity quilt was revealed on Bonnie's blog today. I've saved all the parts. It's a busy design, for sure. Your butterfly project reminds me of my first-ever quilt, a cross stitch kit --both the design and the quilting were stamped.

  8. Your butterfly cross stitch is stunning, Kate! I have the same problem you do, with no sewing getting done on days that I don't go in the studio at all... Hah! I enjoy piecing blocks so much more than I enjoy the quilting part, apparently, but that's probably because I've been piecing blocks for two decades and I'm halfway decent at that now. I've been avoiding my long arm machine for only three years, and my strategy of acquiring skills by osmosis as the machine acquires a thick layer of dust does not seem to be working out for me...

  10. Hand work is repetitive and mostly mindless--a soothing thing in these awful times! Congrats on getting your top ready to become a real quilt :)

  11. Some weeks are like that, and then some are success all around. I am longing for some less successful because that might mean I am out and about more!

  12. Glad no one in my household is alergic to dogs, though ours is a poodle hybrid and doesn't shed. I can't concentrate on one project at the moment I have multiples going. I nearly didn't do anything last night, my back was hurting, had a magnesium salt bath and then sat down on the lounge and stitched for an hour silly I know but it is good to keep the hands busy while watching TV.

  14. Lots of little steps still end up with finished projects! I actually found my very old uFO embroidery project, so I may pick it up after all since I've been seeing lots of embroidery around lately. The MM looks exciting all ready to 'grow up'!

  15. Love your butterfly! And I do believe your Unity is the prettiest one I've seen. Great color combo and not scrappy. Gorgeous!
