I'm posting just a bit late this morning. For some mysterious reason, my lap top will not connect to the Internet. My Nook and My Guy's desk top computer will connect just fine, but my computer tells me the router isn't working. I'm hoping the live in computer guru can fix it once he gets home from his bike ride. For the moment, I've appropriated the desk top.
Barbara over at Cat Patches has suggested "Where I Live" as today's Foto Finish theme. After a bit of file browsing and consideration, I decided that this image gives a good sense of where I live.
The view is from the east looking west towards downtown (those little bumps in the horizon are some of the taller downtown buildings). The photo dates from February 2011 when we had a record low of -29 F and lots of snow. This view is less than a mile from our house. Out here on the east side of town, it's relatively flat, as most people expect Oklahoma to be. If you go west of town, you'll run into the Osage Hills (that little hump to right of the buildings in the photo). That's not a fun drive when it's been snowing as the roads leading out of town that way are pretty hilly and very curvy. Deep winter and mid summer don't look much different around here, it's pretty brown (unless we have snow on the ground). Spring and Fall can be spectacular, but some years seem to last only a week or two at most.
That's one view of where I live. Take a peak over at Cat Patches to check out some other natural habitats.
This really does look like Oklahoma. -23F. Brrrrrrrrrrrrr. The coldest I've ever seen Portland was6F back in 1988 when we got a cold Arctic blast.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty that is! We rarely get that kind of dusting here in North Alabama, but we do on occasion and I love it when it happens! Hilly roads and all!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the view! We will be visiting Oklahoma for the first time this coming December.
ReplyDeleteFun to get a visual, but I was NOT prepared to see the snow! I love snow, but won't be ready for that for at least 4 months yet! It sort of reminds me of where we used to live, minus the city skyline... it is a lot hillier around here and even though there are tons of farms, there are still lots and lots of woods. We were 9 miles southwest of the city but we did see the 'city lights' when we got closer to the main highway.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you live in a place that's great for wide open spaces, but some of the temperature extremes you experience would definitely be a challenge. Thanks for sharing this picture with us.
ReplyDelete-29 is ridiculously cold. My brain just cant imagine a temperature like that. Minus the snow that’s pretty much what I imagined Oklahoma would look like. Lots of wide open spaces !
ReplyDelete(I was hoping for a picture of your house when I saw the post title!)
How funny - my picture was taken in Feb 2011 too! Not nearly as much snow, but a bit more up & down-ish.
ReplyDeleteIn the 104F temps that are lurking outside my door right now, I'm glad to see this cool shot!!
Man! That sounds cold! I think the coldest we've ever had was -5*C --about 23*F. Today, in late winter, it was 20*C (68*F)! Tonight is forecast to get down to about 3*C (37*F)! And we think that's cold!
ReplyDeleteI too was hoping to see your house. My you are out in the country .. I'm sure you love it. Maybe someday that will be me.
