Foto Finish - Goodbye to 2011

Happy New Year's Eve!  If you are going out on the town have fun, be a safe.  We'll stay home, eat cheese and crackers, then watch the ball drop on TV. Will we make it to midnight, maybe/maybe not.  How about you?

This is the last Foto Finish for 2011.  Barbara has decided to drop the themes, at least for now.  So how to select a photo for today?  This one seemed appropriate for the end of the year.

The sunset Thursday night was just beautiful.  The sky was such a deep, dark red. We just stayed outside and watched the sun sink in the west and the reds, turn to purples then to midnight blue.  It's been a while since I just stood and watched the sun set.

Sunsets always make me a bit reflective.  This past year has been a good, if hectic one at Life in Pieces.  No big dramas though, for which I'm very thankful.  Next year will see some major changes at work as the company undergoes restructuring.  Our pre-teen will become a teen in about a week.  Kids grow up so fast.  She's demanding a new "blog" name, telling me that she is no longer a "kiddo".  So I'm putting some thought into making that change.  I'm sure we'll have bigger challenges and changes in 2012, but that's part of life.  There's never a dull moment around here.  I wouldn't have it any other way.

May 2012 be a year of adventure and joy for you and yours.

What a stunning sunset. Amazing. Does she have a name for herself? I was trying to think of something, but the only ones I could come up with were the ones my brother gave me at that age: Bubble Gummer and Teeny Bopper.

We'll be going to to an early NYE dinner at 6pm, and with the bottle of wine we'll have, I doubt we'll be staying up through midnight. I just hope one of wakes up in time to see the ball drop! Best wishes for a wonderful 2012, Kate!

Beautiful! We've been having some beautiful sunsets recently, but not that gorgeous!
Not sure what our plans are for tonight, but I'm guessing we'll be by one of the kids, as most of them have no plans this year. I'm also picturing us at the hospital visiting the last GD that is due!
It's funny, when our kids were growing up, we noticed the changes, but family changes seem much more dramatic now that our kids are grown. Some are good, some I wasn't ready for. Such is life.
Happy New Year!

Why not ask her to suggest one - or better yet, a list from which you can choose?

That is a gorgeous photo!

I wish you all the best for 2012.

Hi Kate, hope you had a nice NYE I didn't see the new year in, was woken by the fireworks again this year at Midnight. We are having a hot start to the year so doing as little as possible and staying near to the air conditioner is a must. Good luck with deciding on a new name for kiddo. Love the sunset. All the best for 2012

Happy new Year Kate. We saw the New Year in, fabulous fireworks at midnight, and party music from downstairs made for a very festive occasion.
I love your photo of the sunset, magical.
Maybe Kiddo can come up with some ideas from which you can choose, as Lynne suggested.

Great photo! My daughters told me I needed to start using different names for them -- they said when I call them #1, #2 etc. it seems like I'm choosing favorites. I explained it was birth order, but they don't like it. So I'll have to come up with something too.

It looks like Mother Nature turned on a spectacular sunset for one of the final days of 2011.

It's funny that you mention the name change for Miss Almost Teen since I was thinking the very same thing about Little P today . At what point do I stop calling him Little?

Happy New Year to you and yours Kate. Im looking forward to many more good times with you in 2012.

Happy New Year, Kate!

Beautiful photo of the sunset.

As to the name, I have a friend that's about 5 years younger and he calls me "kiddo" and another one about 5 years older and he says "young lady". So tell your kiddo that she will enjoy it someday.
